The Classic Mini used variants of the BMC A-Series engine throughout its entire production life from 1959 to 2000. All versions share the same basic architecture — a pushrod overhead-valve four-cylinder with the gearbox mounted in the sump — but differ significantly in displacement, bore and stroke dimensions, and power output.
